Activities at Theewaterskloof Golf Estate and in Villiersdorp
Without a doubt, this is one of the most beautiful inland dam settings a mere hour from Cape Town and 15 minutes from Franschhoek. Hermanus is 45 minutes away and for those that are active, you have come to the right place.
Theewaterskloof Country Estate offers so much variety …. paddling, water skiing, sailing, recreation and leisure activities including golfing, watersports, waterskiing, hiking, biking and fishing. Guests also have access to a private beach, slipway, tennis court, swimming pool and clubhouse with bar and daytime restaurant. 24 Hour access control provides a safe environment for the whole family.
Paddling offers many diverse opportunities for novice and experienced paddlers alike; be it a gentle paddle from the 'beach' down to the dam wall and back to 25+km circuits and one of the cleanest downwind opportunities from the bridge back to the Estate - an 8+ km route of pure joy - small clean and fun.
For those who like fishing, Theewaterskloof is a prime largemouth bass spot and fishermen have boasted catches over 4 kilograms. Luckily the bass continue to increase in numbers after a period during which their existence in the dam was threatened by a combination of pollution, uprooting of trees, and the illegal introduction of barbel and carp.
Wider afield, Villiersdorp and the wider area offers so much more … Art fundies and budding artsiest or just art lovers will love the exposure of Elliot Art Gallery, Gisela Heimstra, Leon Horne, Margaret Epstein, Margaret Ramsey, Mervin Ward or even Tony Bowers. The region also has some stunning Wine Estates inclusing Cranefields, Eerste Hoop, Stettyn Cellar and Villiersdorp Cellar. ( this is over and above the Wine Estates of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch a little while away )
Outdoor Adventure in and Around Villiersdorp include Mountain Biking, Kroon Land 4x4, Theewaterskloof Sailing Club and an abundance of Birding.
